The Authority has two off-stream raw water reservoirs located in DeSoto County near the Peace River Water Treatment Facility. Reservoir 1 is an 85-acre, 500 million gallon, in-ground facility constructed in the early 1980’s. Reservoir 2 is a 640-acre, 6 billion gallon, above-ground facility completed in 2009.
Water pumped from the Peace River is conveyed at rates up to 120 million gallons per day through large diameter pipelines into Reservoir 2. Stored water in Reservoir 2 supplies water to Reservoir 1 an outlet tower and a control valve by gravity discharge. Pumping facilities on Reservoir 1 supply raw water to the Peace River Facility for treatment.
