The Peace River has provided our region with a high-quality water supply for years. As growth in the region increases, the Authority is looking to conservation and alternative supply sources to provide the water we need for our future.

The Peace River Facility
The Peace River Facility provides an alternative to groundwater withdrawals and allows for the transfer of water among Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee and Sarasota counties, as well as the City of North Port.

When river flow is high, excess water is pumped from the river to the reservoir and stored. During dry periods, when river water is not being harvested, stored water will be treated and distributed for use as drinking water.

Maintaining the ecological integrity of the lower Peace River and Charlotte Harbor is an essential requirement for any plan for future withdrawals from the Peace River.
