Water conservation is a critical component to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the region's water resources. The Water PlalUling Alliance conducted the inaugural Water Conservation Summit in 2009 in conjunction with the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority, Southwest Florida Water Management District and other agencies. The top two water conservation priorities identified by the Water Planning Alliance as a result of the 2009 Summit were:

  1. When considering the comparative marginal costs of the next increment of water supply, the Authority/Alliance should evaluate the relative benefits of making a comparable investment in quantifiable water conservation best management practices and standards.
  2. The Alliance members will work with the Authority in an effort to document the quantity of water being conselved within their jurisdiction in 5-year, 10-year and 20-year increments and will estimate the associated financial savings. Please join us in the follow-up Water Conservation Summit 2010 with focus on water conservation best management practices and implementation strategies including funding and partnerships.
